Siemens Low-Voltage Motor Business Acquired by ABB

May 5, 2023
ABB says the Siemens line of severe duty and general-purpose motors will be re-branded and reintroduced during Q2 2023.

Originally announced August 11, 2022, the acquisition Siemens low-voltage NEMA motor business by ABB was completed on May 4, 2023. The Siemens line of horizontal and vertical induction severe duty and general-purpose motors will be re-branded as ABB and reintroduced to the market during second quarter of 2023.

ABB says the acquisition of this business—which employs around 600 people and generated revenues of approximately $63 million in 2021—is part of its Motion business area’s growth strategy to strengthen ABB’s position as a leading industrial NEMA motor manufacturer. In August, when the acquisition was initially announced, ABB says it plans to maintain current manufacturing operations in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The global NEMA motor industry, which is roughly $2.7 billion in size, comprises industrial electric motors primarily used within North America. NEMA motors are used to run equipment in industries such as food and beverage, oil and gas, mining and aggregate, and water and wastewater to move air, liquids and product/part units.
